About Me and My Practice

When it comes to legal services, experience is king. Theory without experience has the same limitations as air guitar playing. Everything I know about my trade I learned by working on real cases, solving real problems for actual clients. First, I apprenticed as a paralegal for many years. I worked at a small law firm, then a medium-size law firm, and then for a while I assisted the head of immigration department of a big law firm. As I gained knowledge and experience in the field, these linear employment options failed to sustain my growing professional ambitions. I enrolled in law school and started my own business providing paralegal support services as an independent contractor to immigration lawyers and law firms.

I offered my services to thousands of immigration lawyers and law firms nationwide. I made connections with hundreds of lawyers who hired me to work on challenging assignments involving every type of legal research, application, petition, motion, and appeal. Not only did I need to provide outstanding work product, but I also had to deliver good results because it was the results, not the quality of my work product alone, that brought new clients to the lawyers I worked with and, in turn, more work for me. Paradoxically, to be able to earn a living as a freelance paralegal, I had to strive to be better as a paralegal than many lawyers were as lawyers. I learned to break down any legal problem into manageable components and solve the problem by fixing them, one by one. I learned my regulations and statutes. I learned what works and what doesn’t and why. Incidently, I also learned how not to work on cases, how not to treat clients, and how not to run a law practice.

This experience serves as the foundation for my current law practice. I can’t guarantee that you will like my style or appreciate the way I do things. Indeed, my insistence on doing things right or not at all might be a bit annoying; my work product quality standards are probably a little too high; my honesty about your available options can be too disarming; and, of course, I’ll never be able to compete with those whose only viable selling point is their low fee. However, I am pretty sure that I will call you back or respond to your email before anyone else will; that I will take the time to understand not only what you want but also think about what you really need; that you will always be able to reach me quickly with any questions or concerns whatsoever; that if your problem has a solution I will find it; that if your case can be approved I will get it approved. And no matter what options you choose to pursue, I will do it right because to me there is no other way.
